• Check your lingerie for any special care instructions on the label.

• Your treasured lingerie should preferably be washed by hand. Washing undies in the machine can lead to the colours fading much more quickly, elastic becoming tired and the underwires to part company with the bra. If you do need to wash them in the machine, fasten any hooks, put them into a lingerie bag and use a gentle cycle

• Hand washing is really the best method - lukewarm water and gentle soap (soap flakes are excellent if you can find them). It takes a little longer, but your underwear will last longer.

• My personal preference is to not use fabric softeners as they may reduce the lifetime of the garments.

• You should always dry your underwear naturally - never in the tumble dryer, for the same reasons as above.
